今年は午年（うまどし）ですが、駆け抜けるのではなく、自分のペースで歩んでいきたいと思っています。
This year is the Year of the Horse, but rather than gallop, I want to move forward at my own pace.
Cette année est l'année du Cheval, mais au lieu de galoper, je voudrais plutôt avancer à mon propre rythme.
元旦に走ろうと思いつつ、ズルズルと先延ばしして、3日にようやく今年初のジョギングに出かけました。
I intended to go jogging on New Year's morning, but I kept putting it off, and finally went for my first jog of the year on January 3rd.

そこで「寒いですね」と付け加えてみると、「そうですね」と一気に表情が緩んで会話が始まりました。
So, I added, “It's cold, isn't it?” and her expression immediately softened with a “It certainly is,” and we started talking.
Alors, j'ai ajouté : « Il fait froid, vous ne trouvez pas ? » Son visage s'est soudainement détendu avec un « C'est vrai », et la conversation a commencé.
前日にテレビでお孫さんのラグビーの試合を見て、感動のあまり眠れず、散歩に来たついでにゴミ拾いをしていたそうです。
According to what she told me, she watched her grandchild's rugby match on TV the day before and was too moved to sleep, so she was picking up trash while she was out for a walk.
D'après ce qu'elle m'a dit, elle a regardé le match de rugby de son petit-fils à la télé la veille et elle était trop émue pour dormir. Elle profitait donc de sa promenade pour ramasser des poubelles.
人と出会った時の挨拶は「私は怪しい者じゃありません」という合図だと思います。
I think a greeting is a way of signaling, “I’m not someone with bad intentions.”
À mon avis, saluer quelqu'un, c'est une façon de signaler qu'on n'est pas mal intentionné.
日本語の場合、その役割を果たすのは、やはり天気の話なのだなあと思った出来事でした。
I realized through this experience that in Japanese, talking about the weather plays exactly that role.
Cette expérience m'a fait réaliser qu'en japonais, c’est bien la météo qui joue ce rôle.
「寒いですね」は今の時期にぴったりです。機会があれば、ぜひ使ってみてくださいね。
“It’s cold, isn’t it?” (“Samui desu ne” in Japanese) is the perfect phrase for this time of year. Why not give it a try if you have the chance?
